Crooked teeth aren't just unsightly - they can compromise your bite and have a significant impact on your oral health.

Invisalign® is a discreet orthodontic treatment that can give you straight teeth without the hassle and discomfort associated with braces.

Learn how Invisalign from the Legacy Dental Group in Birmingham, MI, can give you a stunning smile...

Invisalign is a simpler and more comfortable alternative to traditional braces.

Invisalign Offers a Number of Benefits Over Traditional Braces

Virtually Invisible

Invisalign uses clear aligners that are customized to fit your smile. Your friends and family may not even be aware you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Comfortable Fit

With no metal wires or brackets to irritate delicate tissues, the snug fit and smooth edges of the aligners are far more comfortable to wear than braces.

How Do I Know If Invisalign Is Right for Me?

During your next visit to our Birmingham, MI, dentistry practice, our dentists can determine if your orthodontic needs can be met with Invisalign or if traditional or clear braces are a better option. Our doctors work closely with an orthodontist's office to ensure you receive the best treatment for your needs. If we do not feel this option is a good fit for you, we can refer you to an orthodontist.

Invisalign is designed to correct mild to moderate cases of:

Basic Requirements

You Can Commit

You have to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, every day, for the entire treatment period. You can remove them to eat, drink, brush, floss, or take a quick photo.

Mild to Moderate Misalignment

Invisalign is limited in the types of orthodontic issues it can treat. Major issues such as large gaps and severely rotated teeth will require treatment with braces.

You Value Discretion

If you are a teen or adult who is concerned about how traditional orthodontics will affect your appearance, Invisalign is worth considering.

Treatment Takes 12 to 18 Months

One of our dentists will evaluate your bite. If it is determined that you qualify for Invisalign clear aligner treatment, we will take impressions of your smile. These will then be sent to the Invisalign laboratory.

Your customized treatment will be planned step-by-step to achieve the desired changes over the course of the upcoming months.

Creating the customized aligners takes two to four weeks. During this time, your impressions will be used to create a series of clear aligner trays that will fit comfortably over your teeth.

Treatment Begins

Wearing your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day is going to take a little while to get used to, but it soon becomes a part of your daily routine. You will switch to the next aligner tray in the treatment series about every two weeks.

Every six weeks, you will visit your dentist in Birmingham, MI, so that he can monitor your progress. During your check-up, our dentist can confirm if you are wearing your aligners as instructed.

Your New Smile

Once treatment is complete, your final results can be maintained by wearing your last aligner as a retainer or purchasing a custom retainer.

Invisalign FAQ

Is there any treatment that can provide correction faster than Invisalign?

When it comes to correcting very minor misalignment, alternative treatments such as porcelain veneers and dental bonding can transform your smile in one or two office visits instead of a matter of months. If you wish to correct minor imperfections in time for an upcoming event with an approaching deadline, such as a wedding or graduation, veneers or bonding may be worth considering.

However, it is important to understand that although these solutions give you fast and beautiful results, those results are only superficial, and they will eventually need to be replaced. With proper care, Invisalign results can last indefinitely.

Is this treatment totally painless?

It will involve some very minor discomfort. The custom fit of the clear aligners are designed for your smile, but during the first few days of wearing a new aligner, they may not feel natural. You can also expect to feel the aligners placing pressure on your teeth, which is how the movement occurs. With each new aligner, the adjustment period begins again. A small number of patients feel that the aligners impact their speech, which in turn may cause a feeling of self-consciousness. However, you can expect that this treatment will be far more comfortable than wearing traditional braces or clear braces.

Do I have to clean the aligners?

Yes. When you remove them to brush or floss, make sure to clean the trays. You can purchase kits designed to clean the trays and keep them clear, or you can simply scrub your trays using a gentle soap, a soft-bristled toothbrush, and cool tap water. It is important never to use denture cleaner, toothpaste, hard-bristled toothbrushes, or mouthwash to clean your trays.
