Restore Your Smile with
Customized Dental Crowns

Dental crowns offer both cosmetic and restorative benefits, reinforcing the structure of a tooth while also contributing to the appearance of your smile. These custom-made restorations are designed to blend seamlessly into your smile and complement the surrounding teeth. At Legacy Dental Group in Birmingham, MI, Drs. Jeffrey Grabiel, John Mills, and Raymond J. Kim offer all-ceramic dental crowns to restore and protect a tooth weakened by decay or fracture.

Protect and Support Your Teeth

Traditional dental crowns, also known as caps, work in tandem with the remaining healthy portion of one or more teeth to restore strength, provide protection, or enhance aesthetics. For patients who are missing teeth, crowns can top dental implants or support a traditional dental bridge.

After the initial consultation, your dentist will decide if you need additional treatment such as root canal therapy before placing your new crown and will address the issue causing damage to your tooth, such as decay or breakage.

Who Benefits from a Crown?

Our team may recommend a dental crown if:

  • Your teeth are severely discolored
  • Your teeth are misshapen or disproportionate
  • You have cracked or chipped teeth
  • Your teeth are severely decayed or damaged
  • To protect your tooth after a root canal
  • It is difficult for you to chew food comfortably
  • Your bite is out of alignment
  • You have worn teeth due to bruxism (teeth grinding)

Candidates for crowns must have healthy gums. If you are not a candidate for crowns due to gum disease, we can provide periodontal treatment.

Implant-Supported Crowns

If you are missing a tooth or require an extraction, your dentist may recommend a dental implant. This would require additional x-rays and scans to evaluate your bone health and create a surgical guide. If you are receiving an implant-supported crown, you will typically require four to six months of healing before a permanent restoration can be placed.

Our custom crowns protect the remaining healthy portions of your tooth.

Caring for Your Dental Crown

While your crown may eventually need to be replaced, proper care can help it to last 10 years or more. It is important to brush twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste and floss daily. Regular exams and cleanings are essential for protecting your crown as well as the remaining tooth structure providing support. Avoiding habits such as chewing on ice can also protect your crown.
