A missing tooth can undermine both the appearance and the function of your smile.

At Legacy Dental Group in Birmingham, MI, our dentists restore missing teeth with complete dental implant treatment.

Why are we the best choice for implant dentistry in the greater Detroit area?

The Top Practice for Dental Implants

Respected Dentists

Our doctors have decades of experience with dental implants. Dr. Grabiel actually educates other dentists on restorative dentistry, and his implant techniques have been featured in Dental Products Magazine.

Comprehensive Care

Other offices will refer you to different specialists all over town for the different phases of the implant process. Our dental practice in Birmingham, MI, conveniently offers every step of your treatment plan in one office.

Advanced Techniques

We incorporate the most modern methodologies into our implant treatments. For example, we offer immediate-load implants that can quickly restore your smile. We also use platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) to accelerate healing.

What Makes Dental Implants So Reliable?

Dental implants are titanium posts that our dentists can surgically embed in your jawbone to act as artificial tooth roots. The titanium in the implants is biocompatible, so over time the dental implant fuses with the bone tissue in a process known as osseointegration, making it a permanent part of your anatomy. Once the dental implant is firmly attached to your jawbone, our dentists can attach a crown, bridge, or denture to the implant using a small connector piece called an abutment. In this way, dental implants fully restore missing teeth, from the root to the crown.

See How Implants Work

Implants are direct replacements for lost tooth roots. We place and restore implants in our office, eliminating the need for inconvenient referrals.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Natural-Looking Smile

The crowns, bridges, and dentures our dentists design for our dental implant patients perfectly resemble natural teeth. At the end of your treatment process, no one will know your smile is partly prosthetic.

Fully Functional Bite

Once your implant treatment is complete, your implant-supported restorations will be just as strong and usable as natural teeth. You'll be able to eat apples, rare steaks, and more of your favorite foods with ease.

Retained Jawbone Strength

Implants also protect the health of your jaw. When a tooth is missing, a natural process of bone loss occurs. Since an implant replaces the root of your tooth instead of just the crown, it prevents further bone loss. In fact, to a degree, it can spur regeneration of bone tissue.

Long-Lasting Solution

Although your restoration may periodically need to be replaced, with proper care, your dental implants can last a lifetime and make replacing your prosthetic teeth much simpler.

Implant Dentures

At Legacy Dental Group, we offer both traditional and implant-supported dentures. In some cases, we can convert your traditional dentures into implant dentures held in place with two dental implants. This cost-saving method allows you to experience the benefits of implant-supported dentures without having to replace your existing restoration.

Patient Requirements for Dental Implants

Candidates for dental implant surgery must:

  • Have sufficient jawbone tissue
  • Be free from periodontal disease
  • Be non-smokers, or willing to give up smoking
  • Have good oral and overall health

Pre-Implant Considerations

Our doctors evaluate each dental implant candidate to ensure their mouth can support this type of therapy. Sometimes, preparatory procedures are required to prepare the site of the missing tooth for a dental implant. Some of the common pre-implant procedures we perform at our office in Birmingham, MI, include:

  • Ridge augmentation: The most common type of bone graft, this procedure recreates the natural contour of the gums and jaw after tooth extraction.
  • Connective tissue or soft tissue grafts: These procedures restore soft tissue lost due to gum recession.
  • Sinus lifts: This bone grafting procedure makes space between the sinus membrane and upper jaw for safe placement.
  • Periodontal treatment: We can resolve gum disease and other issues to create a healthy base for your implants.

A bone graft or other preparatory procedure will increase the overall success of your treatment. These procedures can make the difference between the success and failure of your implants.

Dental Implant Timeline

Typically, dental implant treatment takes about six months. Most patients can expect a timeline similar to this:

Consultation

The first step is a consultation, during which you and your doctor will discuss your goals and the different treatments we offer.

Dental Implant Placement

The next step is the dental implant surgery appointment, at which point your doctor will place one or more implants, depending on your needs.

First Healing Period

Next, a healing period of about three to six months is required for the implant to properly fuse with the jawbone.

Abutments

Once the implant has fully fused with the jawbone, your doctor attaches an abutment piece to the implant to connect the implant to a restoration.

Second Healing Period

A second healing period of a few weeks is required for your gums to heal around the abutment.

Restoration

Once the gums have healed, our dentists will take a series of impressions. The impressions are sent to a lab, where a custom restoration is made and usually completed in about four weeks. Finally, the restoration is attached to the implant and adjusted to function harmoniously in your mouth.

In some cases, the doctors at Legacy Dental Group in Birmingham, MI, can offer a shortened treatment timeline using immediate-load implants. In these cases, the implant can be placed the same day as a tooth is extracted. If the stability of the implant is adequate, a provisional crown or bridge can also be placed at the same appointment. We will determine if this approach is appropriate for you.

I've been coming here for ~30 years and my parents did too.  And rather than going into great detail, I will simply say that they are excellent in all respects and you won't be sorry for going there :-)
